Tekla Ayers (she/hers) / Be Rooted Healing Arts
Tekla Ayers is a Reiki Practitioner and Teacher, and has practiced Reiki for 12 years. She is excited to be coming full circle, returning to the birth world to support women during the perinatal time, re-joining Sage Birth and Wellness after being away and building her Reiki practice. She was part of Sage when Amy started it almost a decade ago and always loved the mission of Sage. She is grateful to be part of this amazing community of practitioners supporting birth.
Tekla started her birth world journey in Baltimore soon after her daughter was born in 2011, when she trained in prenatal yoga and doula training and she took over teaching the prenatal yoga class she loved during pregnancy. Tekla learned Reiki in 2014 when she was a birth doula and prenatal yoga instructor. Her clients noticed right away after she learned Reiki, one mama remarking during labor “Your hands feel much different than my husband’s on my lower back!”
Tekla moved to Colorado in 2015, when she was a birth doula, then postpartum doula, placenta encapsulator, and prenatal yoga instructor. She loved hosting a new moms group at A Mom’s Space in Lafayette for 3.5 years, holding space for new moms to connect with each other, holding an honest, real, vulnerable, supportive and peaceful space where the focus was on mom. She enjoyed watching friendships blossom between new moms during these groups.
She took a step back from the birth world to focus on building her Reiki practice of individual Reiki sessions and Reiki classes, though she has always felt great joy supporting women around birth, whether it is healing grief from miscarriage, support during pregnancy (the babies love Reiki!) or during the postpartum time. She loves it all and fell in love with birth during her own pregnancy and home birth of her daughter in Baltimore!
She loves living in Lafayette where she lives with her husband and teenage daughter and 2 dogs. They enjoy the Colorado life of hiking and camping. She loves to be in community and build community.. She volunteers with Boulder SURJ (Showing up for Racial Justice) and continues to be a student of Reiki as she decolonizes her own practice, with deep awareness and appreciation for the Japanese roots of Reiki.
She practices Reiki at 3 different locations for convenience, in Longmont at the Sage office, Lafayette, and at the Joy Collective in Boulder. She welcomes you at any stage of your pregnancy journey.
