Hello everyone! As the oldest of 4 children, with an 11-year gap between myself and my youngest brother, I witnessed firsthand the importance of providing support and encouragement not only to new mothers, but to everyone in their entire family during an incredibly vulnerable time in their lives. After working as a babysitter/nanny for the last 15 years, during which time I supported numerous families with daytime/evening care, establishing routines, and basic household assistance, I decided to pursue becoming a doula, as I wanted to learn more about providing specialized care for newborns and their mothers.
The 4th trimester can be an extremely stressful time for a new mother, regardless of whether it’s her first child or even her fourth. Not only is she recovering physically from the birth, the mother is also adjusting to having a new presence in her life and the subsequent changes to her usual routine, as well as how these changes may impact her partner and other members of her family. My goal as a postpartum doula is to help create a safe and comfortable space for the mother to feel like she can bond with her new baby and establish new routines and patterns that allow her and everyone in her family to successfully function.
In my free time, I love to hike through the mountains, knit blankets for the Project Linus charity, and experiment in the kitchen with awesome new recipes!
Best,
Ellie
