Stephanie (she/her/hers) is a certified full spectrum doula completing her training through Birthing Advocacy Doula Trainings (BADT) in 2021. BADT is a Black-owned, queer-run doula training organization whose mission is to be socially conscious, culturally appropriate, diverse, and action-oriented. The training provides the most current, best practices to serve clients while also focusing on social justice and disparities within birth work. Stephanie is also a student midwife completing training through the Heart & Hands Program with Elizabeth Davis in 2021 and early 2022. She anticipates starting a multi-year didactic program within the next year.
Stephanie is relatively new to birthwork with an intense interest beginning at the point of conception with her first child in 2018. This personal birth experience opened up her soul to a new way of being while also fiercely understanding the need to reclaim our power and knowledge about our bodies as birthing people. Stephanie has witnessed and experienced firsthand both homebirth and hospital settings and the stark differences between these two models of care. Stephanie is a strong advocate for people within her care and has an innate sense of attunement for her clients’ needs.
Stephanie’s past experiences prior to birthwork are steeped in passion for helping Mother Earth and being of service. Immediately out of high school, Stephanie apprenticed with a small town veterinarian and learned skills in a hands-on way including surgical procedures, suturing, administering medications, performing assessments, running a business, and more. After that time, she left her rural hometown for college out-of-state where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health from Colorado State University and master’s degree in Environmental Policy & Management from the University of Denver. Immediately out of college, she worked for a corporation and then a consulting firm doing environmental work across the US. Stephanie also worked in the environmental nonprofit space for over 7 years after that. Feeling called to be of greater service, connecting more deeply within her community, and reclaiming our innate power and wisdom, Stephanie has begun her journey into birthwork as a doula and aspiring midwife and has been unable to look back since.
Stephanie lives in Longmont, CO (occupied Arapahoe, Ute, and Cheyenne territories) with her partner and toddler. In her freetime, she loves biking, hiking, baking, reading and outdoor adventures of many kinds!
