Doctor At Your Door
Philosophy: Doctor At Your Door is a holistic practice, which means we integrate Western medicine (i.e. regular MDs) with complementary and alternative medicine. We work closely with several alternative practitioners in the community, including chiropractors and acupuncturists, and will gladly refer you to the ones we know are good.
Why house calls: The best thing about house calls is how comprehensive they are. We can only cover about 10-25% as much during a regular office visit as I can during a house call. An office visit only allows us enough time to figure out what is going on and how to treat it, but with a house call we can really delve into WHY a person is getting sick, and even better how to prevent them from getting sick in the first place.
We are supportive of: delayed/alternate vaccine schedules, extended breastfeeding past 1 year of life, safe co-sleeping, seeking alternative treatments, and you having direct access to your doctor after-hours and on the weekend.
Types of visits: We can see patients for regular checkups, as well as sick or urgent-care visits. We can do strep testing, urine testing, draw blood at home and bring it to the lab to be tested, do wart or skin tag removals, perform newborn circumcision at home, give IV fluids, write or refill prescriptions, give vaccines, and close wounds with stitches, staples, or medical-grade glue.
Our favorite patients: Families with twins, families with more than 3 children, families expecting a new baby, children with special needs (such as autism spectrum disorders, seizure disorders, needle phobia), patients who are afraid of seeing the doctor, children on a delayed vaccine schedule, and patients who are sick or injured on the weekend (we are faster and cheaper than the ER).
Logistics: Doctor At Your Door, as the name implies, is an exclusive house-call practice for patients who live within half an hour of Boulder. We are out of network with insurance, and charge a flat fee for visits. The fee is $400 for a new patient and $300 for an existing patient (anyone that we have seen at least once). We can provide you with a special receipt called a superbill after your visit, that you can send to your insurance company for reimbursement. The amount you would be reimbursed depends on your out-of-network coverage. We can also take HSA and FSA cards. The only thing we charge extra for is vaccines. If your child is unvaccinated or on a delayed schedule, we are happy to support you in that decision.
